Declaring Candidacy for Mayor - Special Election March 15, 2016
Filing Period Opens January 15 - 8:00 am - closes January 25 - 4:30 pm
To qualify for Mayor, you must be a qualified voter of the municipality (as defined below), who has been a resident of the municipality for at least one year immediately preceding election or appointment to office, shall be qualified for the office of mayor or assemblymember.
No person who has been elected to the office of mayor or assemblymember for three consecutive terms shall again be eligible to hold the office which he or she held for the three consecutive terms until one full year has intervened. Appointment or election to serve the unexpired portion of a term shall not be considered a term for purposes of the limitation provided in this section.
No assemblymember (the Mayor is a member of the Assembly) may hold any other compensated municipal office or employment or elected partisan political office while serving on the assembly.
"Qualified Voter" means a voter who, at the time of the election, is qualified to vote due to the following qualifications:
1) qualified to vote in State elections;
2) a resident of the municipality for at least thirty days immediately preceding the election;
3) registered to vote in state elections at a residence address within the municipality at least thirty days before the municipal election at which the person seeks to vote; and
4) not disqualified under Article V of the Alaska Constitution.
To submit your candidacy for Mayor. file a Nominating Petition (below), along with a copy of your signed APOC Public Officials Financial Disclosure Statement in the Municipal Clerk's Office no earlier than Friday, January 15 at 8:00 am and no later than Monday, January 25, at 4:30 p.m.
Candidate Profile Form - optional
The optional candidate profile form may be submitted at any time following confirmation of candidacy by the clerk, and no later than February 8, 4:30 p.m. in the office of the Municipal Clerk.
