CBJ Request to the U.S. Dept. of Justice for Preclearance
Preclearance is hereby requested for a proposed change to voting practices in the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) which could “affect the eligibility of persons to become or remain candidates, to obtain a position on the ballot in primary or general elections, or to become or remain holders of elective offices.” (28 C.F.R. PART 51 Subpart A -- General Provisions 51.13 Examples of changes, item (g))
The following question will appear on the Regular Municipal Election Ballot of the City and Borough of Juneau, to be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2011:

MUNICIPAL OFFICIALS FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE
Shall municipal officers and candidates for elective office of the City and Borough of Juneau be exempt from the requirements of the State of Alaska Public Official Financial Disclosure law (AS 39.50) and be subject to, instead, the Public Official Financial Disclosure law adopted by the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly in Ordinance 2011-13(c)?

Adopted July 11, 2011 - Ordinance 2011-13c - An Ordinance Placing the Question of Exemption From the State of Alaska’s Municipal Official Financial Disclosure Law on the Ballot; and Adopting, Contingent Upon the Exemption, a City and Borough Public Official Financial Disclosure Requirement; Amending the Election Code Regarding the Public Official Financial Disclosure Statement and Creating Municipal Official Financial Disclosure Requirements.
