The Assessor’s Office received one application for 2004 and 14 applications for 2005 late-filed senior citizen hardship exemption applications. Under this exemption, qualifying seniors may have the property tax liability that exceeds 2% of the Gross Household Income exempted. CBJ code 69.10.020 sets the date for hardship exemption applications to be filed by April 30, 2005 and adopts the State’s hardship provisions pursuant to AS 29.45.030(e). Under the state statutes the Assembly may, for good cause shown, waive the claimant’s failure to make timely application and authorize the Assessor to accept the application as if timely filed.
The packet includes hardship applications which were not filed timely with the Assessor’s Office for Assembly review and action.
