Chip Seal Road Surface Project

CBJ currently chip seals about 1.5 to 2 miles of road each summer. Last summer we surfaced some dirt roads and resurfaced some paved streets. Here is a new surface being put on Main St. (Click on the image for a larger view.)

RAP (Recycled Asphalt Product) being applied to Traffalgar Ave.

An asphalt oil is applied to a prepared base of Recycled Asphalt Product. It is then covered with a layer of ¾” stones. Another layer of oil and smaller stones are applied.

The finished surface will be a long wearing bituminous surface similar to those in Canada (and elsewhere in Juneau).
