Junk Car Event

The Junk Vehicle Event has been closed. The maximum number of vehicles (400) has been collected as of May 8, 2008. We anticipate to schedule another Junk Vehicle Event some time in the Fall of 2008.

What are the hours of operation? 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday

Where is it? 1725 Anka Street

How do I get there? Turn off Old Glacier Hwy as if going to Costco, but do not turn on Commercial Blvd., stay on Anka. There will be signs directing you to the event.

How much does it cost? Nothing for residential junk car disposal

Who is eligible to participate? Any Juneau resident - no commercially owned vehicles will be accepted. If the vehicle is found to be owned by a business, that business will be billed for the full value of junking the vehicle.

What vehicles are accepted? The vehicle must be registered in Alaska. Cars, pick-ups, vans, motorcycles, RV's, travel trailers, and licensed trailers are accepted.

What do I have to do to the vehicle? The vehicle must be empty, free of garbage, scrap metal and can only have one spare tire. You DO NOT have to drain any fluids or remove the gas tank. . RV’s & Travel Trailers must be free of any biohazards (sewage tank removed), and no furniture, including appliances.

Do I need to bring any documents? No, but you will be required to fill out an "Owner Responsibility Form".

What is on the "Owner Responsibility Form"?

Date of event
Vehicle information: Year, Make & Model, Vehicle Identification Number, Color
Address, phone number and your Alaska Driver's License Number
Your signature: This is your statement of responsibility and all liability for the vehicle you bring.
AND your agreement to send the title to DMV with the word "Junked" written across it.
No vehicle will be accepted without this form filled out and signed.

NOTICE: Any vehicles abandoned at our near the collection site will be ticketed and fined as an abandoned vehicle and the full cost of disposing it charged to the owner.
