POLICE CRISIS INTERVENTION SPECIALIST

The Juneau Police Department is hiring a Police Crisis Intervention Specialist.  This is a grant funded position that will work with victims of domestic violence and related crimes.  Duties of this position include:

  • Contact victims of violence and their families to determine what social services may be required.
  • Evaluate individuals with mental health and/or substance abuse issues who are cooperative and requesting services by assessing risk levels and mental health and/or substance abuse history.
  • Answer questions and assist victims in understanding the Criminal Justice System and victim’s rights laws.
  • Work closely with local victim’s assistance programs to enhance the delivery of victim-related services.
  • Act as a liaison with social services agencies, courts, and psychiatric facilities.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education:   A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a social work or a closely related field.

Experience: Two years of experience in social work, social services or related field.

Other: Applicants must posses or obtain a valid Alaska Driver's License by date of appointment and for continued employment.

 

CLOSING DATE

A completed CBJ application form, Number P001, must be received in Human Resources & Risk Management Division before the close of business (4:30p.m.) on February 1, 2010.

The Juneau Police Department does not currently have police officer openings  however we are compiling an eligibility waitlist. JPD uses Public Safety Testing to proctor our initial police officer testing which includes the written exam and the physical ability test.  To find a testing date and location that works for you, go to the Public Safety Testing website and follow the directions.  You can choose any of the open Public Safety Testing dates and/or locations.  Public Safety Testing occasionally offers testing in the Juneau area.
