Ask a Dispatcher
Q. how does your dispatch center work/
Dear Juneau Resident,
Basically, the dispatchers take calls for police, fire and emergency medical services. Then the dispatcher notifies the appropriate first responders of the call so that they can respond as necessary. The dispatcher also documents the information given by the caller along with the response information given by JPD and Capital City Fire and Rescue staff who go to the call. This is a really simple version of what dispatch does. If you want more information, JPD provides an observation opportunity for members of the public. You can call 586-0600 and ask for a dispatch supervisor to assist you with the steps to observe.
