Ask a Dispatcher
Q. This morning I parked in the lot across from the Baranof and used the meter in front on Franklin to register my vehicle for the free 2 hour parking. I noticed the back of my receipt said I didn't need to post in on my dash - just hold on to it. When I got back to my vehicle an hour later I had a ticket waiting for me. What do I do now?
Dear Juneau Resident,
The meter system which allows for 2 hours of free parking is for parking on the streets and not for parking in the garages and lots such as the lot across from the Baranoff. That lot is charged at the rate of 75 cents an hour and is enforced by Bootleggers.
Although early on we were experiencing some problems with the new parking system, it seems to be working correctly now. If you park on the street and receive a citation and you believe you followed the directions correctly, please contact the officer who issued the citation. His or her name should be printed legibly on the bottom of the ticket. Call the Police Department and ask to speak with the officer. Hopefully, you have your receipt and can show it to the officer who can cause the ticket to be voided.
