Ask a Dispatcher
Q. Is there a way that I can volunteer to help JPD with traffic control, or just help or assist them in anyway? I just want to give back to my community and help try to make Juneau a safer place it there are extra eyes out there for JPD. Since there are so many officers and a whole more people here. Down south we had something like that. I know you can volunteer for the fire deparment here so can you volunteer with JDP and be just as hands on as the volunteer fire fighters are? If so, who do I contact?
Dear Juneau Resident,
Absolutely you can help with traffic control and being an extra set of eyes when it comes to crime prevention. The Juneau Police Department works with a volunteer group called Juneau Citizen's Patrol (JCP). They help with road closures and parades. JCP also does regular patrols in personal vehicles and has done a great job reporting DWIs and have even reported a rape in progress when someone from JCP saw a man grab a woman and drag her behind a building. JCP does some great work in this community.
JCP is under the patrol division chain of command so just call acting patrol lieutenant Scott Erickson and give your contact information. Then the JCP coordinator can give you a call or email you and invite you to a meeting.
