Ask a Dispatcher
Q. 11 police cars traveled out Glacier Hwy tonight past the ferry terminal at a high rate of speed with sirens going. Can you share what caused all the commotion?
Dear Juneau Resident,
We did have a very serious accident out the road last night. One person was killed in the incident. There were three JPD vehicles that responded to the initial call, two officers and the sergeant. There were five JPD officers on duty yesterday evening and two stayed available for incoming calls. JPD can never send all of it's resources to a single event because the phone doesn't stop ringing, no matter what else is going on. Here is a link to the latest update on the investigation http://www.juneaupolice.com/PSA-template.php?UID=1183.
CCFR sent a total of eight official vehicles, according to dispatch records, but not all of them would have been part of the initial response and going code. For example, one of the fire vehicles was the chaplain. A number of volunteer responders may also have gone to the scene to try and help and used rotating blue lights on personal vehicles.
After the initial response JPD did call out and send two accident investigators, who were not using lights and sirens. They worked the scene and one escorted the vehicle back to JPD.
