Ask a Dispatcher
Q. Hello there. I have a ex girlfriend's father just email me with a threatening message, telling me that he was going to physically harm me upon his visit in juneau. What are the next steps that I should take?
Dear Juneau Resident,
If you have had more than one run in with this person you might consider a stalking order. You can go to this website (http://www.courts.alaska.gov/forms/civ-750.pdf) for more information. The subject of the order would have to be served here or could be served where they live if the court in that jurisdiction approves the order. There are a few hoops to jump through.
When the person gets to town and can actually act on the threat you will want to report any contact he makes with you.
I don't know anything about your situation but maybe there is some underlying motive causing this person to make the threat. The only time, in my experience, that someone has been threatened out of the blue and for no reason at all is when the person making the threat is a very troubled person, a rare development. Almost everytime the police start investigating the underlying issue comes to light and it can be anything from unpaid child support to an assault on the ex that was reported to the person making the threat. That underlying issue doesn't make threatening behavior okay but if you can figure out a way to talk about and resolve the motivating issue, you might have peace between you and this person.
