Q. Everytime i go to walmart people are parking in,and over the handicaped spaces.does any one (police) enforce those spaces or is it walmarts problem?????
Dear Juneau Resident,
Police actually write that ticket, unusual on private property but that is how it is handled. The ticket is $100 under CBJ ordinance and $125 on the first offense and $250 on second offense under state law.
To make sure you are seeing someone violate the law, look for the handicapped symbol on the license plate or a handicapped symbol on a placard hung on the rearview mirror. Sometimes the handicapped person doesn't have an obvious disability or the person you are seeing is the handicapped person's escort.
A recent crime conference had a speaker who talked about how working handicapped parking spots is a great way to catch people with warrants. I guess if you will take a parking spot from a handicapped person, you probably are breaking other rules and getting into other types of trouble. Give JPD a call when you see a violation. The driver might have a warrant!
