Q. Are there any specific laws/ordinances in dealing with having large concerts or shows?
Dear Juneau Resident,
Now everyone is curious…. who’s coming to town and when do the tickets go on sale?!
There are several factors to consider in planning a large event and several applicable laws/ordinances. Unfortunately, there isn’t just one law/ordinance that umbrellas all factors.
If the event you are planning is in an area that is typically used to house concerts or large events (i.e. Centennial Hall, Sandy Beach, etc.), each separate facility should have a list of rules and guidelines to assist in your event planning. It becomes slightly more complicated if you are planning a large outdoor event elsewhere and must consider timeframe, noise, parking, road closures, and such. Because each event is different, I’ll try touch on some of the various elements that may apply to your event.
- For parade/special event permits (with or without road closures) contact Bob Dilley with the Juneau Police Department at 586-0600.
- For events to be held at Marine Park, Sandy Beach, or other parks or shelters owned by CBJ, contact Parks and Rec at 586-5226.
- For events to be held at Centennial Hall, call 586-5283.
- If alcohol distribution is a factor, contact the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board at 465-2330.
Please note that all events, regardless of type or location, must abide by city, state, and federal laws. Use the web address listed below to search CBJ law.
