Ask a Dispatcher
Q. How does one go about following up on a call? We had to call in Saturday night about multiple instances of shots fired in our mobile home park. The property managers are unable to do anything without a police report - even though multiple neighbors called them about it...
Dear Juneau Resident,
I think I have those calls identified. The calls came in on 4-16-10 between about 9:46 p.m. and and 10:24 p.m. and were complaints about shots or fireworks. To get copies of the police reports you go to juneaupolice.com and look under "Frequently Used Forms" on the left side of the screen. You are looking for the electronic records request form. You need fill out the form and ask for incidents 2010-013537 and 2010-013541. Cases that have been closed, like these cases, are public record. 'Closed' refers to cases that are no longer being actively investigated though leads and tips will reopen the case. You can also talk with the investigating officer, Officer Wise in this case, and ask for more information about what he found during the investigation.
The JPD records clerks check the forms and copy the reports, redacting any information protected by law. Redaction usually applies mostly to sexual assault cases where victim's identities are confidential.
If you don't have the ability to do the form online, you can come down to JPD and fill out a form here. Once the records are available you will be contacted to pick them up. There may be a small fee for copying.
