Criminal Investigations Unit
The Juneau Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit consists of seven (7)officers and one (1)
sergeant. Two (2) of the officers are assigned to the Drug Unit. When an officer transfers to
the Criminal Investigations Unit it is a lateral transfer for approximately 3-6 years. Members of
the unit receive special training in homicide investigation, sexual assault
investigation and child exploitation investigation. They also receive additional
training in crime scene processing, photographing, and interviewing. The officers
assigned to the drug unit also receive special training in conducting under cover
operations, drug buys, methamphetamine lab investigation, and informant management.
