Juneau Police Department Mission Statement In partnership with the people of Juneau, our mission is to make our city a place where people can live safely and without fear.
Welcome to the Juneau Police Department Website! Juneau is Alaska's capital city. Located in the "panhandle" of Southeast Alaska, Juneau is approximately 500 miles southeast of Anchorage, 900 miles north of Seattle, and is only accessible by air and sea. With an economy supported largely by government and tourism, Juneau provides a safe and healthy family environment. Situated in a maritime rainforest the Borough abounds with stunning scenery and many recreational opportunities including hunting, fishing, boating, camping, hiking, biking, kayaking and wildlife viewing. The only accredited police agency in Alaska, JPD provides service to the citizens of the City and Borough of Juneau which covers an area of 3,081 square miles. The Department is divided into two major divisions; Operations and Administrative Services. Within these divisions are the Patrol, Communications and Special Operations Sections. Due to Juneau's isolated geographic location, the Department operates specialized teams including SWAT, Bomb Disposal and Hostage Negotiation. JPD officers are well trained, equipped with the latest police technology and deploy from a modern facility that includes a computerized dispatch center.
