
Chief Greg Browning moved to Juneau, Alaska in 2000 after a 21-year career with the Amarillo, Texas Police Department. During his career in Amarillo, he was assigned to the patrol, service, and detective divisions as he worked his way through the ranks to Captain. He was Assistant Chief from 2000 to May 2006 when he was promoted to Chief.
Chief Browning was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He went to college in Tallahassee, Florida and received a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Criminology from Florida State University. He is a graduate of the 194th session of the FBI National Academy.
Currently serving as treasurer of the Alaska Association of Chiefs of Police, he is also a member of the Alaska Peace Officer's Association, the FBI National Academy Associates, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the National Emergency Number Association, and the National Association of Property Recovery Investigators.
Chief Browning is a founding member of the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center - NW (NLECTC-NW) Regional Advisory Council, and he currently serves as chairman of the Alaska Law Enforcement Information Sharing System (ALEISS) consortium.
Off duty, he enjoys guitar, golf (he coached the Juneau Junior Golf Team for three years) and scuba diving. A private pilot, he loves to fly his Cessna around the beautiful southeast Alaska skies. He lives in West Juneau with his wife and has two grown sons..
