HISTORIC DOWNTOWN WALKING TOUR

Tours are offered 1:30 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
(May thru September ONLY).
$10 adult, $7 under 18. Ticket includes free admission to the museum and is limited to ten participants.
Tour begins and tickets are available at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum.
Join a Juneau-Douglas City Museum guide and travel through the heart of historic Juneau! Visit the Capitol, pass by the homes of prominent Alaskan figures and artists including Judge James Wickersham and Frances Davis. Learn about the early churches of the area, hard rock mining and the businesses and people that made up downtown Juneau. Hear the story of the town’s infamous Robert Stroud, aka the Birdman of Alcatraz, who committed his first impulsive murder in Juneau in 1909 as well as the story of China Joe, who lived by the Golden Rule. Through these stories and more, you will catch a glimpse of Juneau History!
The Juneau-Douglas City Museum Downtown walking tour begins at the City Museum and ends at the “Windfall Fisherman” bear statue. Participants will walk from the Museum past the Capitol on Main and turn up Seward and walk to the Russian Orthodox Church. From the Church they will walk to Gold Street and head to Franklin Street. The tour will walk down Franklin to the corner of Franklin and Front Streets. Participants will then walk along Front Street to Seward and up to 3rd, ending at 3rd and Main St. The route involves a moderate walk with some uphill and downhill walking and is approximately 1 hour long.
