Volunteers Make It Happen! Is the thought of a long, dark winter getting you down? Come brighten up your days and re-kindle your appreciation for Juneau by volunteering at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum! Although the museum sees fewer visitors in the winter, volunteering in the winter is a great time to relax, meet new people, learn about Juneau, and support your community museum.
Winter volunteers typically spend 2 hours a week manning the reception area and frequently assist with a variety of tasks as needed. Some examples include:
Museum volunteers greet and chat with a visitor Our volunteers wear many hats, depending on their interests and strengths, so if you could help the museum in other ways, please feel free to contact us! Volunteers also support the museum with their diverse talents by donating to the permanent collection, photographing museum happenings, assisting with research, baking refreshments for events, painting the galleries or storage areas, and being great resources for staff and visitors, just to name a few! If you would like more information, please contact Claire by email, by phone at 907 586-3572, or stop by and chat with one of our friendly, knowledgeable volunteers anytime. The Juneau-Douglas City Museum is a division of City & Borough Parks & Recreation department and requires adult volunteers to submit to a background check.
We Love Our Volunteers! As a small token of thanks for everything that our volunteers do, we provide museum volunteers with a parking pass for use near Zach Gordon Youth Center, an annual pass for free admission for the volunteer and a guest, discounts of Museum Store items, complimentary tour and presentation opportunities, and invitations to several volunteer events annually.
Museum volunteers try to strike it rich by panning for gold on the AG Mill & Mine Tour in July 2009.
