Gift Shop Artist for February
Barbara Mitchell: Felting Fiber/Fusing Fabric
Now retired from a career in the Juneau School District, teaching creative and critical-thinking skills, Barbara is free to devote herself to the creation of multi-media art works. These pieces combine crocheting, sewing, beading, needle felting and fusing synthetic fabric pieces into collages. During the warmer months of the year, Barbara works outside in a portable greenhouse with her soldering iron, fusing recycled clothing and commerical packaging materials. She turns to needle felting (and goes inside) during the winter. At the Museum, her intricate collages adorn scarves, Christmas stockings, blank journals, internet password log books, day-planners and scrapbooks. These limited, one-of-a-kind items are on sale at the Museum throughout the month of February, with an opening reception on Friday, February 7th, from 4:30 to 7:00 pm.
Shakey Jake & the Goose

The painting features a Bellanca Pacemaker (locally nicknamed Shakey Jake) and a Grumman Corps Goose in the foreground, with a lake on Admiralty Island in the background.
The Juneau-Douglas City Museum Store carries color photolithographs of the painting, a perfect gift for the aviator in your life!
