Juneau Hike Program

Saturday Hikes

Saturday hikes are open to everyone and vary from easy to rugged. Recreation hikers, novices, parents, children, and seniors are all encouraged to join. Participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Difficulty of hike ought to be taken into consideration if bringing children. Hike leaders call in the destination and departure times to the Parks and Recreation Office one day in advance so as to better choose trails according to weather and trail conditions. For example, it is more enjoyable to hike a mountain when good weather affords hikers with a better view. Because the Juneau weather is so variable, hike leaders will have a better idea one day in advance as opposed to six months in advance, when it will be best to hike certain trails.

Some of our Saturday hikes have two departure times. These hikes are rated very difficult and are for experienced hikers only. There is an earlier departure for those preferring a slow to moderate pace and a later departure for those preferring a moderate to fast pace. The two groups will meet at the peak for lunch and a continuation of the hike together. Call 586-0428 for up-to-date information.
