George Schaaf, Parks & Landscape Superintendent

George Schaaf moved to Juneau in 2003 to work for the U.S. Forest Service as a wilderness ranger on Admiralty Island. He later served as the executive director of Trail Mix, Inc., Alaska's largest nonprofit trail organization. While at Trail Mix, George managed more than a dozen major projects, including construction of the Auke Lake Trail and Under Thunder Pathway, as well as major repairs to the Treadwell Ditch Trail and Perseverance Trail System.

George came to the City & Borough of Juneau in 2011. As the Parks & Landscape Superintendent, he is responsible for managing nearly 30 developed recreation areas and athletic facilities, dozens of multi-use trails, and more than 6,000 acres of open space and greenbelts.
