By now you've probably heard that this book was in fact written by J.K. Rowling, famous for having written the Harry Potter books. It's not surprising, then, that the book is well-written. What is interesting, is that it is quite different from Rowling's previous books, both the Harry Potter titles, and The Casual Vacancy. Cuckoo's Calling is a crime novel featuring the Afghanistan veteran turned private detective Cormoran Strike, extremely down on his luck, in debt and freshly dumped by his longtime on-off girlfriend. Strike has just been hired to investigate the apparent suicide of supermodel Lulu Landry. Read this for great characters (especially Strike) and plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing right up to the end.
I started reading this mostly out of a sense of obligation to be familiar with anything the popular Rowling writes, but I was quickly hooked by the story and stayed up late to finish it. Definitely worth reading!
