Getting Started with NetLibrary Downloadable
Audiobooks:
- The first step in accessing the audiobook collection is to go to the Netlibrary
page and set up a free account.
The initial sign-up MUST be done in the library!
Go to "Create a Free Account" in the top right-hand
corner of the screen. After completing the free sign-up, access to the audiobook
collection will be available from your home computer. Choose Audiobook Center to access the audiobook collection through Netlibrary.
- Next, log in (also at top right), using your username and password. This
will take you to the main search screen for the audiobooks collection. If
you find yourself at the "main" Netlibrary page look under the
subject sets at the bottom of the page for "Audiobooks Center".
- Search for an audiobook by entering keyword, title, author, or narrator.
After selecting an audiobook, click on the title which goes to the "Audiobook
Details" screen. Check the "Listening Requirements"
to make sure that your equipment is compatible with the audiobooks.
- Select "Download this Audiobook" to go to the
audiobook download screen where you have the option of a CD quality download
or Radio quality download. To use this file on an MP3 player you MUST
select CD quality. For use on a computer you may select either format.
- To acquire the license open the file in Window's
Media Player (you may be prompted for username and password if your session
has expired).
From the Library Catalog:
- Look up an audio book in the same way you would look up any other material.
The audiobook will be designated as "available at Juneau Public Library
in NET". Click on the "Details" button. From the details
screen you will see two links, the first of which will take you directly
to the NetLibrary download screen (you may be prompted for your username
and password). The second link will bring you to the current page to address
your questions.
- To acquire the license open the file in Window's
Media Player (you may be prompted for username and password if your session
has expired).
Using
an MP3 player:
- After downloading the file it can be transferred
to a portable device (please verify device compatibility under "Listening
Requirements").
- To transfer your audiobook:
- First, make sure that Windows Media Player (version
9 or above) is open.
- Second, make sure that your portable device
is plugged into your computer and has been successfully recognized by
the computer (this may vary by device).
- Open the file in Windows Media Player to acquire the license (You
may need to re-login to NetLibrary to do this).
- Then either use the "Sync" operation or drag your audiobook
file to the device from Windows Media Player (this procedure may vary
depending on your version of Windows Media Player and your device type).
Notes:
- Many MP3 players will require configuration to allow re-starting the audiobook
where you left off (consult your player's documentation for more information).
- You may "Renew" an audiobook once by re-acquiring
the license in NetLibrary.
- All check-outs are for a period of 3 weeks.
- At the end of the check out period the file will become "unplayable".
Simply delete the file to get rid of it.
- At present there is no way to jump between chapters within the audiobook.
- To acquire the license open the file in Window's
Media Player (you may be prompted for username and password if your session
has expired).
