Become a City Museum Volunteer Today!

Friday, December 15, 2017

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum? Volunteering with us is a great way to find out! Volunteers do not need to be history experts, they just need to be enthusiastic, responsible, and willing to learn.

We are always recruiting for volunteers to help staff the reception desk, to act as walking tour guides in the summer, and/or to assist the Curator of Collections with collections maintenance. Click the link below for more information and to find an application form.

Coffee & Collections: Artist Talk with Abel Ryan

Saturday, January 13, 2018
10:30AM - 12:00PM

It's Not Just Black and White, courtesy of Abel Ryan.

Local artist, Abel Ryan, will present on his solo exhibit, Seeing Faces, as part of the City Museum’s on-going Coffee & Collections series from 10:30AM - 12 Noon. Ryan’s presentation will focus on the carver’s journey, exploring how he came to be where he is today. “Carving is not just about the object that is created and everyone sees when you are finished. To the carver, it is about the process of getting there. I have always enjoyed carving, especially masks, not because it is easy, but because it is challenging and forces me to be observant and reflective,” states Ryan. . The Coffee & Collections series consists of free, monthly events with coffee generously donated by Heritage Coffee Company.
