Coffee & Collections: Wayne Jensen on the History of the Alaska Capitol

February 2014

Federal and Territorial Building, Juneau, 1931, JDCM 85.24.009

This program was first presented last February as one of the events marking the Centennial of the Alaska Legislature. The presentation includes historic photos and documents on the planning, design and construction of the Capitol along with photos of its early years of service as the “Federal and Territorial Building.” Wayne will share photos and drawings of the original occupancy of the building and describe how it transitioned from the Territorial Building to the Alaska Capitol. Discussion on both the Art Deco architectural building style and the current renovation project will also be part of this presentation. This is a free event with coffee generously supplied by Heritage Coffee Company.
