Getting to the Juneau-Douglas City Museum

Map of downtown Juneau with bus route marked

The Juneau-Douglas City Museum is centrally located downtown, at the corner of 4th and Main (large red star on map above), across from the State Capitol. It is within walking distance of the downtown historic district and other attractions and is on the city bus line which is a free ride around the downtown loop.

On Foot

From the downtown Juneau waterfront, walk uphill on either Main, Seward or Franklin Streets to 4th Street.  The Museum is located at the corner of 4th and Main.  To view or download a map of the downtown walking area with attractions indicated, click this link - traveljuneau.com

By Car

While driving in and out of downtown Juneau is easy and hassle-free, parking is not.  Unfortunately, due to the Museum's historic location, our footprint does not include designated parking for visitors.  There is paid parking available nearby in the Marine Parking Garage, the North Franklin lot and Shopper's lot and all are within close walking distance of the Museum or near to stops on the downtown bus loop.  Outside the Downtown Parking Management Zone, parking is unrestricted in the residential areas (upper end of Main Street, Gastineau Avenue, 5th & 6th Streets, etc.) but please pay attention to street signage about parking and be aware that many of these streets are on the hillside and may require walking up and/or down a steep hill to get to and from the Museum.  For a map of the Downtown Parking Management Zone, click this link -

By City Bus

Capital City Transit operates free of charge for the downtown loop beginning in front of the visitor kiosk by the parking garage on Marine Way and ending at the Main Street bus depot (see map on right - click on the image to view a larger, printable PDF version).  Riders can exit the bus at the corner of 4th and Seward Streets, then walk one level block to the Museum.  To view or download a map and timetable for Capital City Transit, including information about service to and from the Mendenhall Valley and Douglas, clink this link -
