The Juneau Public Library is a Cooperating Collection of the Foundation Center.
If your non-profit organization is looking for funding, the collection of Foundation Center publications at the downtown Juneau library is the place to begin your research.
The Foundation Center is an independent organization that serves as a clearing house to provide information on foundation and private corporate giving. The Foundation Center is not a foundation. It does not give money away, but it provides information. The Center collects, organizes and disseminates data on foundation and corporate giving. Detailed information about the Foundation Center can be found at their web site: http://fdncenter.org
Grant Resources at the Juneau Public Library
As a Cooperating Collection, the Juneau Public Library offers a core collection of Foundation Center publications, and the CD-ROM product, FCSearch, which allows you to search interactively across several of these publications at once.
Foundation Center materials are available without charge to the public during all open hours at the downtown public library (11am - 9pm Monday - Thursday and Noon - 5pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Trained staff is available to assist you in using the materials; however, staff cannot do research for you.
A more detailed list of grants research materials at the Juneau Public Library is available here. You may also search our catalog online at http://www.ccl.lib.ak.us.
Classes in the use of Foundation Center materials are offered by the library. These will be announced in the media and listed on the library calendar page at this web site. A web page version of these classes are available for your use by clicking here.
If you would like a detailed introduction to the use of these materials and a class is not scheduled soon, you may arrange an orientation session for yourself or your group by contacting the collection supervisor, Barbara Berg, by phone at 586-0442 or by email at bberg@juneau.lib.ak.us. This orientation takes approximately one hour.
We will try to help patrons in outlying communities in Southeast Alaska get started on their grants research remotely. We have a copy of The Foundation Directory that can be made available to you through interlibrary loan. (Please contact your local library. This cannot be sent directly to individuals.) At some point, however, you will need to arrange to come to the Juneau Public Library to complete the more detailed portions of your research in person. Please call the collection supervisor, (586-0442) if you have questions.
There are many resources to assist grant seekers on the World Wide Web. In addition to the Foundation Center site, there are sites that collect information about grants in specific subject areas, and sites about grant writing. You will also find links to information about Federal grants and scholarships, which are not covered by the Foundation Center materials.
The Juneau Public Library staff will be happy to assist you in searching the web for this information. We have also put together a list of web links for grants research to help you get started.
