Barbara Berg, Library Director
Barbara Berg was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up in New Jersey and Maryland. She moved to Anchorage in 1970 and to Juneau in 1972. She and her husband have two grown sons who were both born in Juneau.
Berg holds a Bachelor of Arts in German from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, an Associate of Applied Science in paralegal studies from the University of Alaska Southeast, and a Master of Library Science from the University of Arizona. Before moving to Juneau, Berg worked for the Post Library Ft. Richardson in Anchorage. In 1972, she became the first CBJ employee at the Douglas Public Library following Borough unification. She worked for the University of Alaska Southeast library from 1983-1985 and then returned to work at the Juneau Public Library in 1985. Berg has served on the boards or councils of state and national professional organizations, including the Alaska Library Association and OCLC, the Online Computer Library Center. She served on the incorporating boards of directors for both the Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries and the Alaska Library Network. She was appointed Library Director in 2003.
