Juneau Police Department

Welcome to the Ask A Dispatcher page!

All emergencies should be reported by calling 9-1-1. Active, non-emergency incidents should be reported by calling the JPD non-emergency line at 586-0600.

Ask A Dispatcher submissions have been suspended, but please feel free to view the previously posted questions and answers below.

Every day dispatchers at the Juneau Police Department field calls about almost every issue that impacts quality of life in Juneau.  The issues are about suspected criminal activity, nuisances, family issues, legal concerns and more.  Dispatchers enjoy helping those callers and if the dispatcher can't help directly, JPD dispatchers are experts at finding someone who can help that caller.

Dispatcher working

NOTE:This website feature is to facilitate communication between citizens and JPD. Ask A Dispatcher does not give legal advice, tax advice, or cooking advice. Please rely on your own advisors for that stuff. The intent of this service is to answer the kind of questions posed to JPD dispatchers on a daily basis in a format that is convenient for residents. Because the answers are broad to address an issue in general terms, the answer may not apply to or just be wrong when applied to a specific situation. JPD reserves the right to refuse to comment and will not comment on open cases or specific enforcement actions.

Did you know that the Juneau Police Department dispatchers are responsible to dispatch Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel? They are certified as Emergency Medical Dispatchers and have talked people through lifesaving procedures like CPR. They have even helped deliver babies over the phone!

Most people understand that the first priority for any dispatcher is answering 9-1-1 calls to assist Juneau residents with medical or law enforcement emergencies.  Time not spent on those duties is often spent helping people with issues that impact that person's quality of life.  JPD wants to make it as easy as possible for the community to use our 'help finding' experts, dispatchers, by setting up this web page that lets you "Ask a Dispatcher".
