The CBJ Engineering Department is a service oriented organization whose purpose is to provide technical assistance to the public and to city departments and boards on their development projects. The CBJ Engineering Department is composed of four technical divisions: General Engineering, CIP Architecture, CIP Engineering, and Contracts & Standards.
Public assistance is provided by the General Engineering Division as part of the Permit Center. The Permit Center is located downtown, on the Fourth floor of the Marine View Building, at 230 South Franklin Street. Our General Engineering Division provides such services as permit review for site plans including grading, storm drainage, and utility configurations; water and sewer permits; driveway permits; right-of-way permits; and field inspections.
The CIP Engineering, CIP Architecture, and the Contracts & Standards Divisions are responsible for the implementation of the city and borough's Capital Improvement Program. These divisions are staffed by professional individuals who specialize in project management and construction. The majority of A/E design and inspection work on city projects are done by private consultants, contracted through a competitive proposal process. City construction contracts are acquired through a competitive low bid process.
The Engineering Department also provides administrative support and staff liaison to the Assembly's Public Works and Facilities Committee, and administers the city's Six Year Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
If you have any questions about the Engineering Department, the Permit Center, or any of the many capital improvement projects we are administering throughout our community, feel free to contact us at (907) 586-0800. We will respond promptly to inquiries.
