I need to speak to an engineer, whom do I ask for? A lot of people call us asking for an engineer. While we have engineers working here, there are often times when it would be more appropriate to talk to other staff members (several of whom are part of the Community Development Department, or CDD). What is the difference between the Engineering Department and the Community Development Department? Since our offices are together in the Marine View Center, it is sometimes difficult for the general public to distinguish between the two departments. The Engineering and Community Development Departments have the Permit Center in common. The City & Borough of Juneau Permit Center is the place to contact regarding any Building, Engineering (water,sewer,driveway and/or right-of-way), and Land Use Permits. The General Engineering Division (which is one of the divisions of the Engineering Department) is an integral part of the Permit Center. The General Engineering Division provides the following services through the Permit Center:
