02-13-2016 07:50:10: No new snow in the past couple days, but the mountain is skiing really well on and off the groomed trails. The compacted groomers up top are firmer with a little give in them making them super fun and slarvable. Off-groomed is still fun but more variable with exposed runs slightly firmer with the lower overnight temperatures and some super creamy and squishy areas of spring-like corn snow in the more protected areas and runs.

Temperature at the top of the mountain is 32 degrees with winds averaging 18 mph with some higher gusts, 36 at the base with a steady light breeze around 10 mph, higher clouds with a light and occasional wintry mix expected to continue until early afternoon.

Porcupine, Hooter, and Ptarmigan lifts start loading at 9:00 AM this morning, Black Bear at 9:30. Ptarmigan and Black Bear close at 3:30, the bowls closing at least 30 minutes prior, and Hooter and Porcupine close at 4:00.

The mountain makeover crew got on their weekend runs last night, touching up a few of the normal runs. The “groomer of the day” is Dolly Varden – accessed from the Porcupine lift, it has some of the best snow, snow pack, and grooming work anywhere on the lower mountain. The upper Nordic loop has been groomed for skating and set with classic tracks. If you are an intermediate and above Nordic skier interested in improving your skills, Scott McGee, the PSIA National Nordic Team Coach and one of the highest regarded Nordic coaches in the world is offering classic and skate lessons this weekend at Eaglecrest. Check out our website or call the Snowsports School at 790-2000 ext 211 for reservations.

The thought for the day comes from Rudy Garmisch and the ski flick Hot Dog, and reflects on our lower mountain snow cover – “You people. You may ski on zat side of ze hill or on zat side of ze hill, but stay out of ze meedle.”
