Adaptive Lessons
In partnership with the Outdoor Recreation and Community Access Program (ORCA) at Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL), Eaglecrest offers adaptive ski and snowboard lessons to people experiencing physical, cognitive and developmental disabilities.
Whether it’s simply an exposure to mountain snowsports or advancing skills to carve down the mountain, adaptive ski and snowboard lessons offer an unmatched opportunity for children and adults with disabilities to build confidence, independence, improve fitness levels, make new friends and have fun!
Eaglecrest and ORCA offer adaptive lessons in the following areas:
- Two-track: skier is able to stand independently
- Three-track: disability of one leg.
- Four Track: disability of both legs but able to stand with support
- Mono-ski: disability of both legs, has good upper body strength
- Bi-ski: disability of legs, little or no upper body strength
- Blind/low vision: little or no visual sight
- Snowboard: student is able to stand independently
Weekend Adaptive Lessons with ORCA
The Outdoor Recreation and Community Access Program (ORCA) at Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL) will offer adaptive ski and snowboard lessons on Saturdays and Sundays. Half and full day lessons are available, and are open to all ages and abilities.

Volunteer with ORCA Adaptive Ski & Snowboard Program 
The ORCA Program is always looking for patient, responsible and excited volunteers interested in sharing their passion for skiing and snowboarding with students with disbailities. Volunteers work with a diverse range of students primarily assisting with ski/snowboard techniques, safety, and appropriate terrain choice. Volunteers receive a complimentary lift ticket or Eaglecrest Ski or Snowboard lesson for every day they volunteer!

Accessible Transportation
Accessible transportation to and from Eaglecrest is available through the Outdoor Recreation and Community Access (ORCA) program at Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL). Roundtrip transportation is available from January 2 - March 28. Other dates and times are available upon request. Please call the ORCA program at907-586-0104 to arrange a pick-up time and location.

Mid-Week School Program
Eaglecrest also offers adaptive instruction for children with special needs attending the Eaglecrest School Program with their elementary and middle school classmates. One-on-one adaptive lessons are available and are designed to meet the interests of all ability levels.
Adaptive lessons allow students with disabilities to learn to ski alongside their classmates; building confidence, independence, and acquire invaluable skills in balance, coordination, movement, sensation, personal space and communication.

Nordic Lessons for Visually Impaired
Eaglecrest's certified instructors are excited to begin offering adaptive lessons in nordic skiing for students with visual impairments. All ages and abilities are welcome!
