The Summer trail is clear of snow to the top of Ptarmigan and the top of Black Bear. The Lower Nordic Trail is clear of snow all the way to Fish Creek. Summer has arrived on the mountain!

Porcupine Lodge office hours this summer are Monday through Wednesday from 10am-2pm. Come by or call the ticket window at (907) 790-2000 x214.

Just a reminder that Alaska Zipline Adventures has moved into the Porcupine Lodge and all facilities are now closed to the public for the summer.

Hikers and bikers are urged to bring plenty of water. A public toilet is available in the lower parking lot. There are also public toilets available at the Eagle's Nest at the top of the mountain.

Eaglecrest Adaptive Lessons & Programs

Eaglecrest Snowsports School offers adaptive ski, snowboard and Nordic lessons to youth and adults experiencing cognitive, visual and or physical disabilities.

Whether it is simply an exposure to mountain snowsports or advancing skills to carve down the mountain independently, Eaglecrest’s Adaptive Ski and Snowboard Lessons offer an unmatched opportunity for children and adults with disabilities to build confidence, independence, improve fitness levels, make new friends and have fun!

Learn to Adapt Day - Jan. 22nd, 2017

Do you want to learn more about Eaglecrest's adaptive program? Come to Eaglecrest on January 22nd to meet our certified instructors, learn more about the services we provide and try out the different disciplines. Learn to Adapt day can be a great opportunity to break the ice and learn more about how every person can get on the mountain and learn a new skill.



Adaptive Lessons are offered in the following disciplines:


  • Two-track: skier is able to stand independently
  • Three-track: disability of one leg, able to stand with support
  • Four Track: disability of both legs or balance but able to stand with support
  • Mono-ski: disability of lower body, good upper body strength
  • Bi-ski: disability of lower body, limited upper body strength
  • Blind/low vision: little or no visual sight
  • Snowboard: student is able to stand independently, or with support of instructor or outrigger

Mid-Week School Program

Eaglecrest also offers adaptive lessons for children with disabilities attending the Eaglecrest School Group Program with their elementary and middle school classmates. Private and inclusive adaptive lessons are available and are designed to meet the interests of all ability levels.

Adaptive lessons allow students with disabilities to learn to ski alongside their classmates; building confidence, independence, and acquire invaluable skills in balance, coordination, movement, sensation, personal space and communication.

Attention Teachers! Please advise Eaglecrest Snowsports School in advance about your adaptive students attending the mountain with your class so Eagelcrest may schedule the appropriate adaptive instructor and necessary equipment. Otherwise, the students may not have the best resources available to them.  For School Group lessons, teachers can contact Eaglecrest Snowsports School Group Coordinator: 907-790-2000 ext. 211.


ORCA Program Ski & Snowboard Buddies

The Outdoor Recreation and Community Access Program (ORCA) at Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL) offers adaptive ski and snowboard and Nordic ski buddies to intermediate participants that have a desire to ‘free ski’ but need additional support or guidance to navigate the mountain safely. ORCA offers Ski Buddies as a compliment to Eaglecrest Adaptive Lessons every Saturday and Sunday from January-April. Half and full day ski buddy packages are available, and are open to all ages. Participants must have taken at least 1 lesson during the season, and be of an intermediate ability level (Zone 3+).

The ORCA Program also provides Adaptive Ski & Snowboard Instruction trainings, supports and facilitates PSIA-AASI Adaptive Clinics and Exams, purchases and maintains adaptive equipment, and provides scholarships to youth and adults seeking financial aid.

Volunteer with ORCA Adaptive Ski & Snowboard Program

The ORCA Ski & Snowboard Program is always looking for compassionate, encouraging, and motivated volunteers who are interested in sharing their passion for the mountains with people experiencing disabilities. Volunteers work with a diverse range of students primarily assisting with ski/snowboard techniques, safety, and appropriate terrain choice.

Volunteer Benefits: Volunteers receive a complimentary Eaglecrest day lift ticket for peronsal use every 1.5 days they volunteer, and access to Eaglecrest Snowports Instructor Clinics.

Accessible Transportation

Accessible transportation is available to and from Eaglecrest through the ORCA Program. Accessible transportation is available Saturdays, Sundays and School District Holidays. Advanced reservation at least 48 hours prior is required. There is no accessible transportation offered to/from Eaglecrest at mid-day. Half participants must plan for personal transportation at mid-day.

Accessible Transportation Fares: One Way: $6 Round Trip: $10.

The Eaglecrest Snowsports School is a team of professionals who are dedicated to creating a fun and exciting learning experience. We are members of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI). Eaglecrest is one of over 300 ski areas across the country who participate in Learn to Ski & Snowboard Month (LSSM).
