seven members appointed by the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly.

HISTORY OF THE JUNEAU HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION
THROUGH ADOPTED LEGISLATION


January 11, 1993: Creation of the Juneau Human Rights Commission through Resolution 1615am A Resolution Creating a City and Borough of Juneau Human Rights Commission, and Urging the State of Alaska to Reestablish Alaska Human Rights Commission Support for Southeast Alaska.

June 16, 1997: Extending the life of the Commission by adoption of Resolution 1869: A Resolution Repealing the Automatic Termination of the City and Borough of Juneau Human Rights Commission.

October 27, 2003 : Reestablishment of the Juneau Human Rights Commission through Resolution 2209 (and Repealing Resolutions 1615am & 1869)
A Resolution Reestablishing the City and Borough of Juneau Human Rights Commission.


February 11, 2008 : Reestablishment of the Juneau Human Rights Commission through Resolution 2436: A Resolution Reestablishing the City and Borough of Juneau Human Rights Commission, and Repealing Resolution 2209. [This is the governing legislation of the Juneau Human Right's Commission currently in effect.]

December 10 is observed across the world as Human Rights Day. It honors the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption and proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on 10 December 1943.

To mark this important date and in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Juneau Human Rights Commission held an Essay Contest for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in Juneau.
