Office of the City ClerkOn November 2, 2011, the City and Borough of Juneau filed a Petition with the State of Alaska Department of Commerce to annex approximately 1,977 square miles to the City and Borough of Juneau, a home rule borough. The petition was accepted for filing on April 9, 2012, marking the beginning of the formal opportunity for review and comment by interested individuals and organizations regarding the Petition.
The Public Comment period and the deadline for responsive briefs and comments concerning the petition closed at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, June 28, 2012.

After the petitioner has an opportunity to answer any responsive briefs and comments, the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development (Commerce) will prepare and issue a preliminary report on the proposal. Following receipt and consideration of comments on the preliminary report, Commerce will issue its final report. Procedures governing departmental reports are set out in 3 AAC 110.530. The LBC will then hold at least one local public hearing on the proposal, and a decisional meeting. If approved by the LBC, the annexation will require approval by the voters.
