Accessory Apartment Permit
|
A land use permit that allows the creation of a second dwelling unit
which can be up to a 600SF, efficiency or one bedroom apartment on a
lot which is zoned to not allow a full duplex.

Allowable Use Permit
|
A land use permit granted by the planning commission that places
conditions on the development of a lot to prevent negative impact on
neighbors and community.
|
|
Building Permit
|
A permit to build, add to, change use or occupancy, remodel, repair or
replace a building or component of a building. In Juneau, electrical,
mechanical, plumbing and grading permits are also called building permits.

|
Notify Fire Department of on-site burning of trash.

Conditional Use Permit
|
A land use permit granted by the planning commission that approves
development of a lot and places conditions on the development to prevent
negative impact on neighbors and community.

Deminimus Variance Permit
|
A permit to allow a small variation from the required setbacks if the
variation is caused by an error in construction.
|
|
Demolition Permit
|
A permit to demolish a building or a portion of a building.
|
|
Driveway Permit
|
A permit to create a driveway from a CBJ street onto a lot. On State

Early Start Authorization
|
After submission of complete plans, authorizes applicant to begin
grading and foundation work on a building before plan review is
completed.

Electrical Permit
|
(See Building Permit)
|
|
Fast Track Authorization
|
Authorization to begin construction on specific phases of work on a
building before all the plans are completed. This does not expedite
plan review.
|
|
Fire Department Permits
|
Fire Department permits other than Burn Permits are obtained at the
CBJ Permit Center. These permits include permits for
Childcare/Daycare Inspections, Courtesy Inspections, Liquor License
Inspections, Special Event Structures, Events in Mall Hallways, Fire
Watch Approval, Material Storage, Hot Work, Land Clearing Burning,
Open Flame, Paint Booths, Fireworks or Pyrotechnical Events, Blasting,
and Shipment of Explosives to an Established Site.

Grading Permit
|
A building permit to excavate and/or fill or grade a site.
|
|
Mining Permit
|
A permit to develop a mineral extraction operation.
|
|
Minor Lot Consolidation
|
A permit to combine up to four lots under common ownership into a single lot
without replatting the property.
|
|
Noise Permit
|
A permit to operate heavy construction equipment in the nighttime.
Covers work prior to 7:00am (9:00am weekends) or after 10:00pm.

Oil Tank Installation / Decommissioning – Home Heating Oil Tanks
|
Currently, neither the City and Borough of Juneau nor the State of Alaska
require permits for abandoning residential oil tanks. For useful information

Oil Tank Installation / Decommissioning – Commercial Underground
or Above Ground Storage Tanks (UST / AST)
|
The State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation regulates
the UST program and has helpful information for tank owners of both UST’s

Oil Spills From Oil Tanks
|
The State of Alaska requires the owners of oil storage tanks to report
spills of oil and to take cleanup actions. For reporting a spill
and to receive technical assistance in taking appropriate cleanup actions

Public Facilities Transmission & Excavation Permit
|
Permit to allow utilities to be installed or repaired in the CBJ right-of-way.
On State of Alaska highways, streets, and roads; contact the Department

Sewer Permit
|
A permit to connect to the CBJ sewer utility obtained at Juneau Permit
Center. All properties that have buildings within 200 feet of a
CBJ sewer line are required to connect to city sewer if they have plumbing

Sign Permit
|
Permit to erect a commercial sign. May also need a building permit.

|
Special Expedited Authorization
|
Authorization to work on a specific phase of a building before plan review is completed.
|
|
Street & Sidewalk Use Permit
|
A permit for temporary exclusive use of a portion of a street or sidewalk
during construction activities.

|
Street Closure Permit
|
A Police Department permit to temporarily close a street for a scheduled
event or for the exclusive use of a group. Call 586-0600 for information.

Street & Sidewalk Vending Permit
|
Permit to operate a vending cart on a street or sidewalk. (Vending
carts operated within CBJ parks are permitted by the CBJ Parks and
Recreation Department 907-586-0226. Vending carts operated on CBJ docks
are permitted by Juneau Docks and Harbors at 907-586-0292)

Street Vacation Permit
|
Permit to convert a CBJ right-of-way into private land. On State of

Subdivision Permit
|
Permit to split or combine lots or adjust property line locations.
|
|
Variance
|
A permit to vary the dimensional requirements of the land use (zoning)
code such as reducing the land use setbacks normally required for a lot.
|
|
Water Connection Permit
|
A permit to connect to CBJ water utility. (On-lot water and sewer are
regulated by the State of Alaska, Department of Environmental Conservation

Wetlands Permit
|
A permit to develop property in a Class C or D (minor) wetland over

A process to amend the CBJ zoning map to allow broader use or restrict
the use of a lot or lots.
