General Description

"The Engstrom building was a two-story structure, and a one-story extension attached to the east façade. The roof is flat. The walls were sided with T-1-11 channel plywood siding. The main structure was 27’ x 35’ and the extension is 22’ x 41’. Five sets of double-hung windows with four windows to a set were placed symmetrically on the north façade. The wood entrance door was reached by a short flight of concrete steps. The south façade had a wood door. The west façade fronted a parting lot located on the corner of Third and Dixon streets. "

Historical Information

"Constructed by the brothers Elton and Allan Engstrom, the building housed the Alaska Public Works Department from 1951 to 1973. Demolished."
