Residential Structure Fire 6-30-2010

On Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at approximately 5:05 pm, Capital City Fire Rescue was dispatched to 2760 Douglas Highway for a residential structure fire. While en route, dispatch advised that there were numerous 911 calls reporting smoke and flames visible. The structure was a single family dwelling located on the beach at the end of a long and steep driveway. Access with emergency apparatus was not possible. The fire was contained to the exterior deck, a small portion of the crawl space and some of the interior living space. Damage is estimated at approximately $3,000.00. There were no injuries and there were no occupants home at the time of the fire. The home is insured. After a fire investigation was conducted, it was determined that the cause of the fire was from smoking related materials. Officers from the Juneau Police Department assisted with traffic control during the busy time of day. CCFR would like to remind the public to slow down and use extreme caution when approching emergency vehicles.
