Capital City Fire/Rescue

CCFR participates in the Muscular Dystrophy Association's "Fill-the-Boot" campaign

Capital City Fire Rescue is asking the community to help “Fill-the-Boot” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The annual campaign will kick off this Friday, August 31, 2012 from 2 PM to 6 PM and Saturday September 1, 2012 from noon till 4 PM at the Costco and Super Bear Market areas. Firefighters will be out with fire trucks and fire boots taking any and all donations. All of the money raised will stay in Alaska to help send children with muscular dystrophy to summer camp as well as help patients purchase special equipment and for support groups. Muscular dystrophy is a muscle disease affecting mobility and breathing. Last year, over $5,000.00 was raised in Juneau. Fill-the-Boot began in 1953 when two Boston Firefighters wanted to help “Jerry’s Kids” so they grabbed their boots and went into the community to raise donations. That tradition has occurred every year since then with fire departments participating in the campaign across the United States.
