2-2-2017: Structure Fire at 623 Basin Road Fire Cause Determination

The cause of the fire that occurred on January 31, 2017 at 623 Basin Road has been determined. The Capital City Fire Rescue Fire Marshal's Office conducted a fire origin and cause investigation immediately following the fire. The fire was unintentional and after interviewing occupants and fire scene examination the most cause was unattended cooking on the first floor kitchen area. The three occupants living in the home were alerted by the smoke alarms activating. There were two firefighters with minor injuries and one pet dog that died as a result of this fire. The home is a total loss with an approximately $300,000 loss. The home is insured and tenants renting space had renters insurance. Capital City Fire Rescue wants to remind homeowners that smoke alarm save lives. Had the smoke alarms in this home not operated the night of the fire, the loss could have been far worse.
