Capital City Fire/Rescue

11-8-2016 Residential Structure Fire 10903 Glacier Hwy.

On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at approximately 1:21 PM, Capital City Fire Rescue responded to 10903 Glacier Hwy. for a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two story home with smoke visible at the ground floor. There was a small fire found in a utility room that was quickly extinguished. The home owner, who was home at the time of the fire, escaped with no injuries. The home owner also attempted to extinguish the fire with a portable fire extinguisher prior to fire personnel arriving. The home sustained minor fire and smoke damage. There was approximately $355,000+ of property and contents saved by fire personnel. The Fire Marshals Office conducted a fire origin & cause investigation and determined the fire to have started as a result of cooking oil being heated up by a portable propane burner. The oil ignited and started to burn the wooden cabinets and contents in the room. The home is insured and there were no injuries reported. Capital City Fire Rescue wants to strongly remind residents to never leave cooking unattended and to be sure there are working smoke alarms in your home. Submitted by: Fire Marshal Daniel Jager
