11-2-2016 Residential Structure Fire 226 Behrends Avenue

On Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at approximately 11:08 AM, Capital City Fire Rescue was dispatched to 226 Behrends Avenue downtown for a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, personnel found a two story home with an apartment that had light smoke visible from the outside and smoke seen inside of the home through the windows. Fire personnel made quick entry into the structure and found a small fire in the upstairs kitchen area. There were no injuries reported and the family cat was found safe inside of a bedroom by firefighters. The fire marshal's office conducted a fire investigation and determined the cause to be related to the homes heating system, in particular, the wiring. The home was insured. The amount of property saved is approximately $340,000+ between property and contents. Capital City Fire Rescue wants to remind everyone to have working smoke alarms in their home. With Daylight Savings ending on Sunday 11-6-2016 is a great time to change your clocks and the batteries in all of your home smoke alarms. Submitted by: Fire Marshal Daniel Jager
