Capital City Fire/Rescue

8-27-2016 Residential Structure Fire

On Saturday, August 27, 2016, at approximately 1:44 AM, Capital City Fire Rescue responded to 5955 Woods Street in Lemon Creek for a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, light smoke was visible from the duplex home and all occupants evacuated. Fire personnel ventilated the smoke out of the residence and checked for extension into the attic space and walls. The homeowner had used baking soda to knock down most of the fire prior to fire personnel arriving. The fire marshal's office conducted a fire investigation and determined the cause of the fire was due to an electrical failure in the main breaker panel on one side of the duplex. The fire destroyed the main breaker panel, charred pat of the wall and burned part of the wiring. There were no injuries reported and the estimate of damage is unknown. The home was insured. Capital City Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone that a portable fire extinguisher is a wise investment. Be sure you have at least one in your home and know the proper way to use them.
