Capital City Fire/Rescue

8-26-2016 Multi Family Structure Fire

On Friday, August 26, 2016, at approximately 11:36 PM, Capital City Fire Rescue responded to the Aware Transitional Housing at 3410 Glacier Highway for a report of an apartment fire. Upon arrival, fire personnel discovered light gray smoke from a second floor apartment. There was a small smoldering fire in the apartment and the building sprinkler system activated and extinguished most of the fire. The fire marshal's office conducted a fire investigation and determined the fire was caused by a small child using a lighter that ignited a mattress in the apartment living room. There were no injuries reported and the family was relocated to a different apartment until the water could be cleaned up. Capital City Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to have a working smoke alarm in every sleeping room and on every floor of your home. The best chance for survival is early detection and early evacuation. Submitted by: Fire Marshal Daniel Jager
