Motel 8 fire

On Saturday August 1st at 0253 Capital City Fire Rescue responded to a possible commercial building fire also known as the super 8 motel. Initial engine company and Chief Officer arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the gable end of building. The initial fire attack team found a smoldering fire in the attic and the fire was extinguished. Extensive overhaul and looking for fire extension was performed. The cause of the fire was determined to be the heat lamp that was located in one of the motel room on the 3rd floor. Damage occurred to the roof trusses and to the bathroom, The Fire Marshal is currently continuing to investigate the cause of the fire. The Super 8 motel employee had initially found the fire and pulled the fire alarm to alert the motel occupants to evacuate. A motel resident was transported from the scene from falling down the stairs and had minor injuries. A firefighter was also assessed for possible medical problem and was released on scene.
