Water Rescue - Downtown Parking Garage

On Friday, February 27, 2015, at approximately 1:23 PM, Capital City Fire Rescue responded to the downtown library/parking garage for a report of a man that fell into the water. Fire Chief Rich Etheridge was on scene within 30 seconds of the call and additional fire personnel arrived on scene approximately 3 minutes after the tone out and reported a male patient, facedown and unconscious floating in the water near pilings underneath the library structure. Firefighter Jesse Echave, Captain Todd Cameron swam out to the patient in the 38 degree water and Fire Chief Rich Etheridge assisted. The three scaled the rocks to the beach line and retrieved the patient. They brought the patient back to shore and immediately started CPR. Other arriving personnel assisted with CPR and helping bring the patient up the rocky shore to the ambulance. The patient was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital and was reported to have a pulse. Capital City Fire rescue would like to thank the members of the public, Juneau Police Officers, and Coast Guard for their assistance with their rescue incident.
