Capital City Fire/RescueResidential Structure Fire 5-20-2011On Friday, May 20, 2011 at approximately 7:50 a.m., Capital City Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at 102 Gastineau Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel discovered a small fire and smoke in the downstairs apartment. The fire was extinguished and confined to the kitchen. The tenant had cooked breakfast earlier in the morning and left the apartment for approxiamtely 10 minutes. Upon his return he found the apartment full of smoke and called 911. Investigation revealed that a frying pan with grease had been left on the stove and the stove was not turned off. The grease ignited and the fire traveled up the wall behind the stove. All occupants had safely evacuated the structure and there were no reported injuries. There was an estimated $1,000.00 in damage. Submitted by: Fire Marshal Daniel M. Jager |
