Capital City Fire/RescueResidential Structure Fire 5-14-2011On Saturday, May 14, 2011, at approximately 12:38 a.m., Capital City Fire Rescue was dispatched to 1125 Timberline Court for a report of a residential structure fire. Fire personnel arrived to a two story duplex residence. Light smoke was seen from the outside of the second floor deck. Fire personnel extinguished the fire on the deck and remained on location for two hours checking for fire extension into the residence and extinguishing all hot spots. The occupants were home at the time of the fire. They had been alerted to the fire by smoke alarm activation. One female occupant was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for minor smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was from charcoal briquettes that were not properly extinguished before being placed in a plastic bucket on the deck. The fire had smoldered for several hours before it was detected. This structure was insured and estimated damage is approximately $8,000.00. Juneau Police Officer Jarrett Mahoney was first on location and made initial contact with the home owner and assisted with knocking down a majority of the fire with the use of a garden hose prior to fire personnel arriving. There were other emergency calls occurring during this fire response, taxing emergency responders across the city. Submitted by: Fire Marshal Daniel M. Jager |
