7-25-2014 Residential Structure Fire 4309 Glacier Highway

On Friday, July 25, 2014, at approximately 6:20 PM, Capital City Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire at 4390 Glacier Highway. There were numerous 911 calls as a large column of smoke and flames were visible. Fire personnel arrived to find a two story house fully engulfed in flames. The house involved was built in 1925 and was in the process of major renovation work. Most of the families personal belongings were in a storage unit and nobody was living in the home. The City and Borough of Juneau Assessor Database lists the home value at $52,600. The house is a total loss. Nobody was home at the time of the fire. There were two pet ferrets that did not survive the fire. The fire marshals office has conducted a fire origin and cause investigation and are still working to determine the cause of the fire. The home was insured. Fire Marshal Dan Jager asks that anyone that has early photos of the fire that were taken before fire apparatus arrived, if those can be brought in for examining that would be helpful in the investigation. Anyone with information can call Fire Marshal Dan Jager at 586-0260. Submitted by: Fire Marshal Daniel Jager.
